Richard Owens the vigneron, winemaker Steve Hagan and viticulturist Neil Grosser, strive hard to produce quality wines that truly reflect the Hunter Valleys' unique style.

Steve Hagan, Winemaker

Steve Hagan, the winemaker at Oakvale, has had international winemaking experience as well as having made wine in the Hunter prior to joining Oakvale.

His experience includes Rapaura Vinters Marlborough NZ, King Estate Oregon USA, Alto De Casablanca Chile, Bodega La Riojana Argentina, Cantina di Soave and Perlage in the Veneto region of Italy, Western Range Wines WA, Yarraman Road in the Upper Hunter and Mitchelton in Victoria.

Steve Hagan said that "The soils at Broke Fordwich, where the main vineyard for Oakvale's wines is located, are extremely well suited to the production of the Oakvale Shiraz, Verdelho and Semillon".

"The Verdelho particularly, does extremely well on these soils and the wines and their recognition are testimony to it", Steve said.

The 300 tonne capacity winery with state of the art equipment produces some of the very best regional varietal wines year after year.

Since owning the winery, Richard Owens has completely refitted the winery and cellar door.
