In 1893 the Elliott Family established Oakvale and built a slab Cottage on the site as their home. This slab cottage has now been restored and converted to an Old Shop Museum in keeping with the heritage of the property.
The Museum takes you back to the late 1800's and early 1900's when the country general store provided everything from salt to saddles to families of the district.
Richard Owens family established its first general store at Wollombi in the late 1800's, not far from the Oakvale property. Many of the items from the original Wollombi Store are now housed at the Oakvale Museum.

A wonderful trip down memory lane for those who remember and a lesson for the younger generation on what retailing was about before the advent of the supermarket.
Open seven days, feel free to spend time appreciating this wonderful collection of memorabilia.
